Is a Mini Tooth Implant Right for Me?

Being told “no” can be frustrating. If you’ve considered dental implants to replace a missing tooth, you might have heard this simple word and felt discouraged. Many patients living with tooth loss are told they aren’t candidates for implant-supported replacements. They might hear they don’t have enough space in their jawbone or can’t tolerate invasive oral surgery. Others are stressed about the price of traditional implants and feel it’s not a realistic option for them. But advancements in implant dentistry have paved the way for a patient-centered alternative: the mini tooth implant.

The mini dental implant is a dramatic improvement over its traditional counterpart. It’s much smaller than a conventional implant and works for patients who have lost jawbone volume. Plus, it’s much less invasive to place and results in faster smile restorations. And all of these benefits also make mini implants more affordable, too. With fewer visits, a simpler procedure, and a streamlined design, mini implants can often cut treatment costs in half.

If you’ve been told you can’t get an implant, you might just hear a different answer here. With mini dental implants, we can often tell our patients, “Yes, dental implants are possible!”

Barriers to Traditional Dental Implant Treatment

Mini Tooth Implant in Cleveland, TN | Free Dental Implant ConsultsIf you’re missing a tooth, a dental implant is the leading option for restoring the natural appearance and function of your smile. Unfortunately, it’s very common to hear you’re not a candidate for the traditional implant process. But why?

One reason patients aren’t eligible for a conventional implant is that they lack sufficient bone to support it. The traditional implant is quite large, up to 5mm or more in some cases. This means you must have enough bone to screw the conventional implant into place. When you don’t, you may need to undergo bone grafting surgery in order to qualify for the procedure.

Another reason some patients aren’t eligible is that the traditional implant placement procedure is more invasive. To place this type of implant, we need to make a large incision in the gums, which is called flap surgery. Patients with underlying health conditions or those diagnosed as medically frail may be unable to tolerate this invasive procedure.

Moreover, the journey to final restoration is quite long. With traditional implants, it takes several months until you can smile and chew with a complete set of teeth. This is because we need to wait for the gums and bone to completely heal before we connect your final crown, bridge, or denture to the implant. And the timeline is even longer if extractions are required.

While there are several barriers to traditional implants, they don’t need to stop you from enjoying a beautiful smile. If you don’t qualify for a traditional implant, we can still restore your smile with a mini tooth implant.

Why More Patients Are Candidates for the Mini Implant

It’s true: more patients are candidates for a mini dental implant than a traditional one! How is it possible?

The mini implant’s reduced size makes it suitable for patients with smaller jawbones. A mini dental implant is about half the width of a traditional one. This means even if you’ve lost too much bone for a conventional implant, a mini implant could still work for you. No bone grafting is typically needed!

You’ll also find that the procedure to place a mini implant is far less invasive. The days of making large gum incisions are over. To place a mini implant, we simply make a small hole in the gums and gently guide the implant into position.

This gentle process dramatically reduces trauma to the surrounding gum tissue and improves your healing experience. Even if you have underlying conditions, you’re more likely to be able to tolerate the mini implant procedure!
