If your teeth are chipped, stained, or uneven, you might feel self-conscious about your smile. Veneers can help you address those concerns. Their customizable shape, size, and shade let you make subtle improvements or a more noticeable change while still looking natural.
At the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in Cleveland, TN, our three generations of family dentists want to work with you to craft a roadmap to your dream smile. Whether you want more uniform teeth or a brighter look, we can evaluate your oral health and discuss whether porcelain veneers fit your goals. First, we’ll get on the same page about what this procedure can do for your smile and what to expect from the process.
Here are five of the most common questions we hear about veneers, answered!
1. What Are Veneers?
Veneers are a cosmetic dentistry procedure that can improve your smile. These thin porcelain plates are tailored to your teeth and attach to the existing tooth like a shell. Our dentists make veneers to match your preferred tooth color, helping you achieve your perfect smile. We use dental cement to bond these coverings to the teeth. This strong adhesive ensures your new smile stays secure.
Because we tailor each veneer to your preferred length, shape, the appearance of alignment, and color, we can design a smile that meets your cosmetic goals. As a result, you can enjoy a beautiful smile that changes how you feel about yourself.
2. What Can Veneers Fix?
Veneers can hide imperfections on your natural teeth so that you can wear your smile proudly.
We use veneers to combat a wide range of problems that can impact your self-confidence. Issues like staining, crooked or misshapen teeth, or chips and fractures can make you hide your smile. Veneers address these issues, creating a radiant, uniform look and dramatically improving your smile’s appearance.
3. What Are My Options for Veneers?
The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry offers two veneer options: traditional porcelain veneers and no-prep veneers.
Traditional porcelain veneers are custom-made coverings that improve tooth color, shape, and size. However, they typically require removing a small amount of enamel, permanently changing your teeth.
No-prep veneers, sold under the brand Lumineers®, are ultra-thin porcelain coverings that may require no enamel removal, hence the name “no-prep.” These veneers can provide more subtle changes to the teeth and may be reversible in some cases.
The right option for you depends on your smile goals, and we’re more than happy to explain what suits your needs best at a free consultation.
4. What Does the Veneer Process Look Like?
We start the veneers process by taking an impression or scan of your natural teeth. Then, our dentists remove a small amount of enamel to make room for the veneer shell if your treatment plan uses traditional veneers.
Veneers often require multiple visits due to lab fabrication time. However, with our advanced in-house CEREC machine, we can sometimes create your veneers in just one visit.
When your veneers are ready, we’ll clean and etch your teeth, then apply dental cement to bond the shells to each tooth. We’ll use a curing light to harden the cement, ensuring a strong and long-lasting bond for your new smile.
Finally, we will make any last adjustments, checking that your bite lines up and the veneers feel comfortable in your mouth. We will make sure you are happy with your new look before we send you out the door with a beautiful, enhanced smile!
5. Are Veneers Right for You?
Veneers may be a good option if you want to improve your teeth’s appearance. However, the right treatment depends on your overall dental health and any habits that could affect your smile makeover’s longevity.
Our dentists examine your teeth and gum health to ensure you have optimal oral health for veneers. If you grind or clench your teeth, we’ll discuss how those habits could impact your smile makeover and whether another approach would be more appropriate.
You should also understand the long-term commitment. Traditional porcelain veneers typically require removing a small amount of enamel, which does not grow back. The veneers themselves may eventually need repair or replacement.
During your free consultation, we’ll explain whether veneers fit your needs or whether teeth whitening or orthodontic treatment would better address your concerns.
