Full Arch Dental Implants: Understanding Denture Alternatives

Holidays. Weddings. Birthdays. These are the traditions that make life beautiful. These are the times when we come together in celebration, where we express how much we mean to one another. But if you wear traditional dentures, there’s another “tradition” that might sound familiar: adjusting them throughout the day, worrying about adhesives, or avoiding your favorite foods. It’s a tradition no one looks forward to, and it can make life’s special moments feel a little less joyful. Full arch dental implants offer a lasting solution. By locking your denture in place, they let you focus on the celebration, not your teeth.

This modern alternative to traditional dentures allows you to replace a whole row of teeth using dental implants for support. Full arch implant solutions better mimic the look, feel, and function of natural teeth, giving you greater comfort, confidence, and biting power than old-school dentures ever could. It’s a reason to smile and a reason to celebrate.

Problems With Traditional Dentures

While a traditional denture restores some chewing and biting ability, it doesn’t bring back all of your bite strength. As a result, many denture wearers feel limited in what they can eat.

On top of this, traditional dentures often stop fitting as well over time. When you lose a tooth, you also lose the root. That’s important because, as you bite and chew, the root places gentle pressure on the jawbone, which helps keep it healthy and strong. Without the roots, your jaw shrinks, and you’ll notice that your dentures feel loose, even if they fit well previously.

But you don’t have to settle for a path that ends in loose dentures and sticky adhesives. Modern alternatives, such as full arch dental implants, offer a better option.

What Are Full Arch Dental Implants?

With full arch dental implants, we can restore an entire arch of top or bottom teeth while closely matching the look and feel of a natural smile.

When you choose this solution, we will anchor a series of dental implants into your jawbone to form a strong foundation for your replacement teeth. Instead of relying on suction or adhesive for stability, the denture will lock onto the implants.

When your false teeth are supported by dental implants throughout your mouth, you’ll enjoy a restored bite strength, which allows you to enjoy a wider variety of foods. And since dental implants are artificial tooth roots, they also prevent bone loss.

But maybe you’ve heard or thought that you aren’t a good candidate for dental implants. This may be because your jawbone has deteriorated too much after tooth loss. Or perhaps you can’t tolerate invasive oral surgery for traditional implants, which requires that we make a large incision in the gums. At the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer mini dental implants. These implants are 40% of the size of traditional implants. And instead of invasive gum surgery, we only need to make a small hole to place each implant into the jaw.

By improving the dental implant process, more patients are eligible for advanced implant dentures!

Types of Full Arch Dental Implant Systems

Full arch dental implants provide support and structure for prosthetic teeth. We offer several kinds of implant dentures, including:

  • Snap-on dentures: Also called overdentures, these dentures “snap on” to 4-8 mini dental implants and are removable for cleaning. Their removability makes them similar to traditional dentures, but they’re far more stable.
  • Fix-on-Six®: This implant denture is semi-removable and anchors onto 6-10 implants. You won’t remove it on your own. Instead, your dentist at the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry will remove your prosthetic for regular deep cleanings. Between appointments, you’ll brush your denture like you would your regular teeth. We also recommend a Waterpik for thorough cleaning.
  • Non-removable roundhouse bridge: These permanent dentures are cemented onto 10-12 implants. Since they use even more mini implants, they feel and function most like natural teeth, providing the highest stability and bite force.

When you come in for a free consultation, we will evaluate your jawbone, discuss your treatment expectations, and help you explore which implant denture option is best for you.
