Crowns vs. Veneers: Two Strategies To Solve Smile Goals

Both interventions support your smile in very different ways, and the best option for your case depends on what problems you want to solve. Crowns restore the function and structure of a missing or damaged tooth, while veneers enhance the appearance of your smile.
Mini Implant and Crown
Patients often come to our office because they’re insecure about a missing tooth in their smile line. We’re able to address their needs and complete their smile with a crown and a mini implant.
A crown is a custom-made cap that reinforces the shape and structure of a single tooth. While this therapy is sometimes used to extend the life of a tooth, we can also place a crown on a mini dental implant to replace a completely missing tooth.
To place the mini implant, we make a small pinhole at the site of the gums and gently guide the implant into place. Then, we cement the crown to the implant to complete your smile. You’ll be able to bite and chew immediately after the process, like you have a full set of your God-given teeth!
With our Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC), we’re able to produce a crown on the same day as your visit! So you can leave the office with a fully functional, permanent replacement in just a single day.
Porcelain Veneers
Another common concern patients bring to us is that they don’t like the color or shape of their smile. To achieve dramatic cosmetic makeovers, we provide porcelain veneers!
These thin shells are designed to dramatically improve the color and shape of your smile. They allow us to close gaps in your teeth, restore wear from teeth grinding and erosion, and hide chips and fractures.
To place veneers, we shave off a thin layer of the enamel on the front of the teeth, an irreversible step, to precisely fit the veneer.
The process often takes two appointments, but with the CEREC machine, we may be able to craft your custom veneers all on the same day.

Because of missing back molars, her front teeth experienced additional wear. Plus, her teeth started shifting out of place. She also disliked the color and shape of her remaining teeth and said she no longer smiled.
To restore a beautiful, complete smile for the patient, we created a custom treatment plan that replaced three upper teeth with implants and crowns. We also added upper and lower veneers to restore the shape and color.
As a result, the patient now smiles all the time with a complete, beautiful set of teeth. She says that the treatment changed her life.
