Did you know that smiling affects your self-confidence and mood? But when you have worn, misshapen teeth, you might avoid showing off those pearly whites. This means you’re losing out on a confidence boost! Fortunately, solutions such as crowns and veneers address dental features that can cause insecurities, so you can enjoy the benefits of smiling once again. But between crowns vs. veneers, which one will serve you best on your smile makeover journey?
The two treatments improve smiles in different ways, and as it turns out, for many patients, they’re even better together! Dental crowns restore the structure of individual teeth, while porcelain veneers cosmetically correct the front of teeth in your smile line. We gave one patient who was unhappy with his smile a complete makeover using both crowns and veneers.
With our attention to detail and personalized approach, we will help find the very best solution for your unique smile concerns!
Crowns vs. Veneers: Two Strategies To Solve Smile Goals
If you’re just starting your journey to a brighter smile, you might be wondering whether you need crowns or veneers. Both interventions support your smile in very different ways, and the best option for your case depends on what problems you want to solve. Crowns restore the function and structure of a tooth after extensive damage, while veneers enhance the appearance of your smile.
Dental Crowns
Patients often come to our office because they’re insecure about very damaged teeth in their smile line. We can address their needs by restoring their teeth with tooth-colored crowns.
A crown is a custom-made cap that reinforces the shape and structure of a single tooth. We can use this treatment to extend the life of a tooth after extensive wear or to protect it following root canal therapy. We can also place a crown on a mini dental implant to replace a completely missing tooth.
With our Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC), we’re able to produce ceramic crowns on the same day as your visit!
Porcelain Veneers
Another common concern patients bring to us is that they don’t like the color or shape of their teeth. To achieve dramatic cosmetic makeovers, we often use porcelain veneers.
These thin shells are designed to dramatically improve the appearance of teeth in your smile line. They allow us to close gaps, restore minor wear from teeth grinding and erosion, hide chips and fractures, and conceal discoloration.
To place veneers, we shave off a thin layer of the enamel from the front of the teeth. While this is an irreversible step (since enamel doesn’t regrow), it ensures that the veneers fit your teeth perfectly and don’t appear bulky.
The process often takes two appointments, but with the CEREC machine, we may be able to craft your custom veneers all on the same day. We evaluate this possibility on a case-by-case basis.
When it comes to crowns vs. veneers, you should know that the two treatments are not mutually exclusive. Take a look at one patient’s story to see how powerful these treatments are together!
Crowns vs. Veneers: One Patient’s Smile Makeover
At the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, our passion is achieving personalized solutions for every smile. We combined dental crowns and veneers to provide a complete dental makeover for one patient!
The patient’s teeth were extensively worn from years of teeth grinding (bruxism). The upper teeth were particularly worn, with progressive loss of tooth structure over time. The overall structure of the bottom teeth was largely intact, though they had cosmetic imperfections, such as cracks and uneven wear.
We designed a completely custom treatment plan to restore the shape and structure of the upper teeth with crowns and conceal cosmetic flaws in his lower teeth with veneers.
As a result, the patient now enjoys a beautiful, functional smile and a renewed sense of confidence!
That’s what we hope for with each person who walks through our doors. We take pride in customizing treatment to fit each person’s unique smile. You can explore this patient’s transformation (and many more) on our Facebook and Instagram. And when you’re ready to start your own journey, schedule a free consultation with our team.
