People often want to make smart spending choices, and that starts with understanding what drives a product’s cost. Take dining out, for example—a fast food burger may cost you only $5, but it’s quickly assembled and tastes mediocre. On the other hand, a gourmet restaurant may charge $20 for a burger that uses premium ingredients, takes expert preparation, and offers superior flavor. Every detail, from quality to craftsmanship, influences the price. The same principle applies to more meaningful investments, too. If you want high-quality treatment from a skilled provider, the cost will reflect the expertise and materials involved. Veneers are a great example—but how do you determine what’s worth spending and what factors influence veneer pricing?
There’s plenty to consider when exploring smile enhancement options, and veneers are one of the top solutions. Before making a decision, it’s helpful to educate yourself about what veneers are and what goes into the cost.
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry service in today’s dental offices. They enhance your smile and mask dental flaws and imperfections, such as:
- Stubborn stains or discoloration
- Crooked or irregularly shaped teeth
- Noticeable gaps between teeth
- Chips, cracks, or fractures in teeth
- Wear and tear from grinding or enamel erosion
At the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer porcelain veneers. Porcelain is a high-quality and durable material that we custom-craft and bond to the front surface of your tooth. Oftentimes, you’ll come to our office for two appointments to get your porcelain veneers. However, we can sometimes use our CEREC machine to craft them in a single visit.
The process to get veneers is simple. One of our expert dentists will remove some enamel to make space for the porcelain veneer, an irreversible process. Removing enamel is relatively painless; however, we can use local anesthesia to make sure you’re comfortable. Then, if your veneers are going to be customized at an off-site lab, we’ll place temporary veneers to protect your teeth as you wait.
At your next visit, we’ll remove the temporaries and clean and etch your teeth. Etching means roughening the tooth’s surface. This process helps the veneer bond to the tooth structure for long-lasting results. Then, we will carefully place your custom veneers using dental cement. The cement hardens to your tooth’s surface with a curing light. The final step is making any necessary adjustments and ensuring proper bite alignment.
The process is simple and delivers more aesthetically-pleasing smile—making it well worth the investment. But what factors influence veneer pricing?
What You Should Know About Veneer Pricing
Various factors influence veneer pricing. If you have any underlying issues, such as tooth decay or gum disease, we’ll address those issues before proceeding with veneers. This is important because healthy teeth and gums form the foundation of your smile makeover and are vital to treatment success. Therefore, when considering cost, it is important to factor in the complexity of your case and your overall oral health.
Another key aspect to consider is how many of your teeth have dental flaws that need correction. The cost will vary depending on whether you need just two veneers or a full set across your smile line.
It’s also important to note that porcelain veneers are well-known for their durability and natural appearance. Because they last so long and significantly mask dental flaws, they may cost more than veneer alternatives, like Lumineers®.
Lumineers are extremely thin veneers that also mask similar dental imperfections. They are less invasive because the process requires minimal or no tooth preparation. If you’re looking for a simpler approach that skips enamel removal, Lumineers may be the right choice for you. However, Lumineers are less durable than porcelain veneers, which could impact their longevity.
Whether you choose veneers or Lumineers, maintaining good oral hygiene is key to preserving your results and overall oral health. It’s equally essential to avoid habits like smoking or nail biting, which can damage your veneers and compromise your results.
Insurance and Financing
When calculating the cost of any dental procedure, it’s important to consider financing options and insurance policies. Typically, insurance doesn’t cover the cost of cosmetic procedures like veneers. However, they may be partially covered if they are deemed medically necessary. This may be the case if veneers are used to protect damaged teeth due to trauma.
If your insurance doesn’t cover your veneer procedure, we offer financing options to help. The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry partners with CareCredit, Alphaeon, and Cherry, which are lending companies that offer flexible financing plans. We also offer a 5% discount for those who pay in full for treatments over $1,000.
