The Invisalign® Process
Wondering what to expect from the process?
First, you come in for a free consultation, where our dentists will take digital scans of your teeth. We use this information to generate a custom 3D treatment plan that shows how your teeth will move.
Next, we develop a series of clear aligners designed to gradually move your teeth into the correct position over time. At this stage, we can also give you a better idea of how long you’ll wear clear aligners. Depending on how much correction you need, you might wear clear aligners for 12 to 18 months.
Once you receive your aligners, you must wear them for 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat and clean your teeth. This helps keep your treatment on schedule. After a few weeks, you’ll move on to the next tray in the set, which will further move the teeth into the ideal position. As you switch between sets, you’ll periodically come in for checkups so we can monitor your progress. After your treatment, you’ll maintain your results by wearing a retainer. This step is key to preserving all your hard work. Without a retainer, teeth may shift back to their original positions after a smile correction, a process called orthodontic relapse. With regular nightly retention, we can reduce the risk of orthodontic relapse.
